Students with Disability and Impairment

Students diagnosed with a reading disability require a reading program that can meet their particular needs. The Writing Road to Reading is that program.

Differentiated instruction is embedded in The Spalding Method. This diagnostic method can thus be tailored to meet the individual needs of students.

The Writing Road to Reading uses high frequency words that are already part of most students’ spoken vocabularies. Students begin by learning to decode the words they will encounter most often in text, an advantage for students with learning disabilities and all students.

Experience and research has shown that The Writing Road to Reading has been particularly effective for autistic and dyslexic children. Spalding is used by many special education teachers, educational psychologists and speech pathologists to great effect.

Spalding Education International is a nonprofit corporation. It was established in 1986 by Romalda B. Spalding as a resource for Spalding materials, to perpetuate her method of teaching language arts, and to maintain the principles and procedures that make The Spalding Method so effective.
