What is Spalding

Spalding Education is a training organization designed to empower people to teach all literacy skills with the most effective methodology on the market.

Spalding Education Australia has a vision that every child in Australia has a right and should possess a literacy level that enables them to complete whatever tasks required to their highest standard.

Our mission is to increase literacy for all children and adults by using The Spalding Method to develop skilled readers, critical listeners, and accomplished writers and spellers.

We believe that once people have these literacy levels, taught using this methodology, their ability to think and process situations and problems will be greatly improved.

Students learning through this approach will create neural pathways which will imbed the knowledge deeply into their long term memory available for ready recall as required. They will have understandings that they are able to adapt to any learning situation.

Spalding Education Australia (SEA) is the only Australian licensee of Spalding Education International (SEI), home of The Writing Road to Reading (WRTR) and The Spalding Method (TSM). Only those who have completed the full training in WRTR with us are authorised to teach TSM.

SEI is accredited by the International Multisensory Structured Language Education Council (IMSLEC) and the International Dyslexia Association (IDA) for its literacy instructional programs for teachers and Spalding teacher trainers.

All teacher training is performed by Spalding Certified Teacher Instructors (SCTIs) who have achieved certification through a rigorous process, ensuring the highest quality of teacher training. Instructors are required to renew their certification every two years.

SEA regularly holds training courses for teachers and parents throughout Australia, New Zealand and Asia. See the Courses schedule for details in your area.

We encourage you to visit the SEI website (www.spalding.org) for detailed information about The Method, current research, and recent advancements. The website includes the history of The Spalding Method and Romalda B. Spalding’s remarkable life-long passion and dedication to the teaching of literacy through scientifically supported methodology.
